General Late Work Policy

September 11, 2016

Dear Parents,

Our teachers have developed a late policy for their classes. Our efforts are focused on preparing the students to be more independent, and to take responsibility for and pride in their academic efforts. The system will be as follows:

  • 1 day late is minus 11 points/11%  (brings student to a “B” grade on the assignment)
  • 2 days late = -21
  • 3 days late = Zero and Detention

*Students will still be expected to turn in the assignment, even after receiving a “0”.

When the assignment is turned in, the assignment will be corrected by the teacher and could receive up to a grade of “59%”, based on the quality/correctness of the assignment when it is turned in to the teacher.

Detentions will be given every Friday until assignment is turned in completed.

On projects that represent a significant point value, parents will be notified if a student has not met interim target dates and/or the due date.

The teachers want to reiterate the importance of checking ProgressBook to keep up with your child’s progress. Teacher comments will be written next to assignments, indicating if an assignment is missing or late. After 2 missing homework/class assignments in one week in a class, the teacher will send out an email to the parents concerning the missing work. Additionally, a warning notice will be sent from the office for the parent’s signature.

Teacher homepages, located on the Hope Charter website, are a wonderful tool to stay informed as to what is happening in the classrooms. Assignments, tests, and quiz dates are all posted to teacher homepages weekly. As well, please check your child’s backpack and planner. If there is a half finished or blank worksheet or homework paper, please assume it needs to be completed and turned in. Parents may also go onto Progressbook and sign up for alerts to be sent to them when their child is missing an assignment or a grade falls below 70%.

As stated in the Parent/Student Handbook: “Classwork or homework will not be given in advance for planned absences for family vacations or activities.” If you are planning to take a vacation during school attendance days, please make sure all previously assigned work is turned in, even if the due date is during your vacation.  Days taken that are not scheduled school vacation days are unexcused.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation in furthering you child’s education and future!

Sincerely,
