Extra Credit Opportunities

World History/U.S. History

Available for completion once each quarter. Due four weeks before the end of the quarter, per Hope/Legacy student handbook.

 

Due Dates:

1st Quarter – Sept. 14th

2nd Quarter – Nov. 15th

3rd Quarter – Feb. 14th

4th Quarter – May 1st

 

Extra Credit opportunities are a fun way for you to choose what you want to learn about the world. These activities are to be done outside of class, in an area you would like to explore about topics we have covered in class. Extra Credit will be due before the end of each quarter. Please try to remember that the end of each quarter is VERY busy. You have more time now than you will have then; complete extra credit early.

You may only choose one activity for Extra Credit. Choose wisely.

  1. Read 3 Current Events Articles that follow a story related to the world. The articles should focus upon a central theme, for example events that take place in one country or events that are related to religion, types of government, war, or social relations, politics.

    Requirements:
     
    1. A copy of EACH article. (Must be from a credible source, ie. Chicago Tribune or TIME)
    2. A summary of EACH article that describes the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.
    3. A 1-2 page typed paper that links the three articles together. The paper should answer the following questions: What is the central theme that connects the articles? How does this theme relate to topics covered in class? What did you learn from these articles? What did you find interesting? How will these events impact you and the World?

      POINT VALUE: 40 Points
       
  2. Watch a World History/U.S. History Film that relates to content covered in class. The film must receive teacher approval.

    Requirements:
    1. Include the title of the film, its length, and the year made.
    2. Answer the following questions in a 1-2 page typed paper after viewing the film: What did you learn? How does it fit in with class material? What impacts did it have on you? What was most interesting? What is your opinion?

      POINT VALUE: 30 Points
       
  3. Visit the Field Museum or Art Institute to see historical exhibits that relate to material covered in class.

    Requirements:
     
    1. Turn in a signature verifying your attendance at the Museum.
    2. Describe in detail the museum that you chose. What information was discussed? What was your favorite exhibit and why? Examples of Paintings, quotes, Etc…
    3. Answer the following questions in a 1-2 page typed paper: What did you learn? How does it fit in with class material? What impacts did it have on you? What was most interesting? What is your opinion?

      POINT VALUE: 20 Points
